Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrive Asmara

Arrive Asmara (2,300m elevation — cooler than expected). Asmara walking tour: Cinema Impero (1937 Art Deco), Fiat Tagliero Building (1938 Futurist), Asmara Cathedral, Bar Vittoria. Evening passeggiata on Liberation Avenue.

Day 2 — Asmara Deep Dive

National Museum of Eritrea, Tank Graveyard (WWII and independence war detritus), Orthodox church of Enda Mariam, Medebar Market (recycling market — extraordinary circular economy).

Day 3 — Keren

Day trip to Keren (90km northwest). Highland market town — large Monday camel market, WWII British and Italian cemeteries, Mariam Dearit shrine in a giant banyan tree.

Day 4 — Massawa

Drive down the spectacular Asmara–Massawa escarpment road (100km, 1,800m descent in 1 hour — one of Africa’s most dramatic road descents). Massawa old town: Ottoman coral architecture, Italian colonial buildings, war damage. Fresh Red Sea fish lunch.

Day 5 — Massawa Coast — Return Asmara — Depart

Morning: Green Island and Massawa bay. Return Asmara for departure flight.
