Itinerary

Day 1 — Addis Ababa

National Museum, Merkato, Trinity Cathedral.

Day 2 — Fly to Lalibela

Afternoon: Lalibela first rock church cluster.

Day 3 — Lalibela Full Day

All 11 rock churches. Bete Giyorgis.

Day 4 — Fly to Axum

Axum stelae field (UNESCO), Queen of Sheba’s Palace ruins, St Mary of Zion Church (Ark of the Covenant), Aksum Museum.

Day 5 — Axum to Gondar

Drive/fly to Gondar. Royal Enclosure (UNESCO) — six medieval castles of the Gondarine dynasty. Fasilides’ Bath.

Day 6 — Simien Mountains

Day excursion to Simien Mountains National Park — gelada baboons, dramatic escarpment, Ethiopian wolf (weather permitting).

Day 7 — Danakil Depression

Drive to Mekele and onward to the Danakil. Erta Ale volcano approach. Overnight at the crater rim viewing the lava lake.

Day 8 — Return Addis Ababa — Depart

Return from Danakil to Mekele, fly Addis. Depart.
