Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrive Hargeisa

Arrive Hargeisa. City orientation: MiG memorial, camel market, National Museum. Welcome dinner.

Day 2 — Laas Geel

Full-day guided tour of Laas Geel rock art caves. 10,000–5,000 BCE Neolithic cave paintings. Picnic lunch on site. Return Hargeisa.

Day 3 — Drive to Berbera

Morning drive through Somaliland’s semi-arid landscape to Berbera via the desert road (180km, 2.5 hours). Arrive Berbera: colonial Ottoman and British port architecture, the strategic DP World port development. Afternoon: Berbera beach on the Gulf of Aden. Fresh seafood dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4 — Sheikh Mountain Pass

Drive from Berbera to Sheikh (80km, approximately 1.5 hours). Sheikh sits at 1,500m elevation — dramatically cooler than the coast. Visit British colonial weekend villas (some of the finest surviving British colonial domestic architecture in the Horn of Africa), coffee farms, highland villages, and the dramatic Sheikh Pass. Afternoon drive back to Hargeisa.

Day 5 — Hargeisa Markets — Depart

Morning at leisure. Camel market, currency exchange district, local craft shopping. Afternoon/evening departure.
